CDC Releases Reopening Guidance for Cleaning & Disinfecting

Recently, the CDC has released two documents aimed toward providing everyone some best practices when it comes to cleaning and disinfecting. This comes as many states are slowly reopening select businesses and services over the next few weeks and months. Whether you have a solid plan in place already for cleaning and disinfecting the facilities you’re responsible for or not, we heartily recommend everyone read through both documents:

They can also be directly downloaded from the CDC here: Reopening Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting Public Spaces, Workplaces, Businesses, Schools, and Homes

There are a couple of things we’d like to highlight:

  • Clean and then disinfect. We’ve been saying it over and over, and we’ll continue to say it. It’s always been the CDC’s recommendation, and it’s more important now than ever. Not only are you prepping the surface to let the disinfectant do its job, but you’re getting rid of any residue left behind by the last disinfectant application.
  • One of the documents provided by the CDC is a decision tool that takes into account several factors to help you determine what steps you need to take with an eye toward reopening. It’s a great resource.
  • The CDC instructs you to use disinfectants on their approved list N. As a reminder, we recommend these EnvirOx products that can be found on that list:
  1. EnvirOx Critical Care (EPA# 72977-3 -69268): follow directions and let dwell for 3 minutes. The formulation is a Ready-to-Use product.
  2. EnvirOx Non-Acid Disinfectant Concentrate (EPA# 10324-63 -69268): follow directions on the label for Virucidal Performance (4 oz per 5 gal) and let dwell for 10 minutes. The formulation is a concentrated product, requiring dilution. Note that the Human Coronavirus claim does not appear on this product’s affixed label, but the product does carry the claim on the EPA Master Label, and hence is on the list.
